IAG Cargo Expands Cold Chain Network With Kuala Lumpur Constant Climate Station

IAG Cargo has added Kuala Lumpur as an approved Constant Climate station, strengthening its pharmaceutical logistics presence across Southeast Asia.

The move brings the total number of approved Constant Climate locations in the Asia-Pacific region to 13, reinforcing the carrier’s regional footprint for temperature-sensitive shipments.

IAG Cargo’s Constant Climate product is designed specifically for pharmaceutical transportation, covering vaccines, biotech products, diagnostic samples, and other temperature-sensitive materials.

The Kuala Lumpur addition brings IAG Cargo’s global Constant Climate network to approximately 100 approved stations worldwide, a significant operational milestone for the carrier.

The GDP-certified Kuala Lumpur facility is equipped to handle both active and passive temperature-controlled shipments, meeting rigorous pharmaceutical industry standards.

A daily service connects Kuala Lumpur to IAG Cargo’s London Heathrow hub, with an early morning Heathrow arrival allowing same-day onward connections across the wider Constant Climate network.

Jordan Kohlbeck, Head of Pharmaceutical at IAG Cargo, said: “Adding Kuala Lumpur to our Constant Climate network further enhances IAG Cargo’s presence in Southeast Asia, strengthening both our origin and destination capabilities for pharmaceutical and healthcare shipments.”

Kohlbeck added: “It expands our regional coverage and offers customers greater flexibility when moving temperature-sensitive goods across the globe.”

He also noted that the carrier is well positioned to handle complex shipments, saying: “With around 100 approved Constant Climate stations worldwide, and our state-of-the-art New Premia facility at our London Heathrow headquarters, IAG Cargo is ideally positioned to manage high-value, time- and temperature-sensitive shipments quickly and securely.”

Customers routing shipments through Kuala Lumpur can also access IAG Cargo’s Critical service, which provides priority handling and enhanced monitoring for the most urgent consignments.

The expansion is driven by rising demand for cold chain air freight, fuelled by growth in biologics, cell and gene therapies, and personalised medicines requiring precise temperature management.

The Kuala Lumpur station also supports IAG Cargo’s third-party handling arrangement with MASkargo at London Heathrow, benefiting pharmaceutical flows between the two hubs.

The development follows the launch of the Global Cargo Joint Business between IAG Cargo, Qatar Airways Cargo, and MASkargo, a partnership aimed at broadening connectivity across the carriers’ combined cargo networks.
