Arsenal are reportedly open to selling Gabriel Jesus in the upcoming January transfer window, Gooner Daily reported on Monday.
The Brazilian forward, who will have 18 months remaining on his contract by the start of 2025, is currently recovering from an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury but is expected to return to full fitness around the New Year.
Arsenal Face Key Decision Over Jesus’ Future
Mikel Arteta’s side are said to be considering their options as they look to manage the depth of their attacking lineup.
The Gunners are currently reliant on Viktor Gyokeres to lead the line, but with Kai Havertz also nearing full fitness, Jesus’ position in the squad could become less secure.
Arsenal’s willingness to entertain offers for the 28-year-old reflects a broader effort to balance their forward options ahead of the second half of the season.
Challenges in Selling an Injured Player
Despite the growing speculation, there remains an element of risk involved in selling Jesus so soon after his recovery.
Clubs are often hesitant to invest heavily in players returning from long-term injuries, and Arsenal could struggle to receive a fee that reflects the striker’s true value.
“Perhaps if Jesus makes his comeback and has a couple of strong early performances, then that would be the time to cash in,” Khan reported.
If Arsenal were to sell him immediately upon his return, the club might be forced to accept a lower price due to lingering concerns about his physical condition and form.
Strong Form Before Injury
Before sustaining his ACL injury in January during the FA Cup clash against Manchester United, Jesus had been enjoying one of his best spells in an Arsenal shirt.
He scored six goals in six games leading up to that match, underlining his importance to the team’s attacking rhythm and his ability to deliver in crucial fixtures.
The FA Cup tie itself carried additional significance, as Arsenal wore their all-white ‘No More Red’ kit — part of a campaign launched in collaboration with Adidas in 2022 to help tackle youth knife crime in London.
Potential Role on Return
Should Jesus return to the same level of performance that he displayed before his injury, Arsenal may yet reconsider their stance on selling him.
Arteta has often praised the striker’s work rate, versatility, and leadership — qualities that have made him a valuable member of the squad since his arrival from Manchester City in 2022.
However, with competition for attacking places intensifying and financial considerations at play, a sale in January remains the more likely scenario at this stage.
Market Dynamics Could Dictate Decision
The January window is often a seller’s market, but for Arsenal, timing will be key.
If Jesus returns in time to showcase his form before the window opens, his value could rise significantly, making it easier for the club to secure a favorable deal.
On the other hand, if Arsenal opt to sell him too soon, they risk losing a proven goalscorer for a fee below his potential worth.
For now, all eyes will be on Jesus’ recovery progress and how quickly he can reintegrate into the team’s plans.
His performances in the opening weeks of 2025 may well determine whether he remains in North London or begins a new chapter elsewhere.
