Liverpool is reportedly turning its attention to Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak as a potential replacement for the struggling Darwin Nunez. Isak, who has been in sensational form for the Magpies, has scored 17 goals in the Premier League this season and has emerged as one of the most sought-after strikers in Europe.
According to sources, Liverpool, along with other major clubs like Chelsea and Man Utd, is monitoring Isak’s situation closely, with a view to making a move in the summer.
While Isak has been in excellent form for Newcastle, the prospect of playing for a club with a rich history of success like Liverpool could be an attractive proposition. The Reds are pushing for a top-four finish and Champions League qualification, and a player of Isak’s quality could help them secure their place among Europe’s elite. However, Newcastle’s stance on the player remains firm, with the club eager to extend Isak’s contract and reward him for his contributions.
Sources suggest that Newcastle is planning to offer Isak a new deal with a salary increase, making it more difficult for Liverpool to lure him away. Should Liverpool decide to pursue the deal, they could face a significant financial challenge. Newcastle is said to value Isak at around €150-€170 million, a sum that could be outside Liverpool’s typical transfer budget.
With that in mind, Liverpool is also reportedly looking at other attacking targets, including Inter Milan’s Marcus Thuram. The Reds are also focused on strengthening their defense, with Tottenham’s Micky van de Ven among their targets. Whether Liverpool can strike a deal for Isak or pursue alternative options will depend largely on their success in securing a top-four finish and their willingness to break the bank for a marquee signing.
