After 11 years of marriage, Shakira, 45, and Gerard Piqué, 35, who have two children together, Milan, 9, and Sasha, 7, announced their separation in June.
She began the New Year by writing: “Even if our are still open in this new year, time has surgeon’s hands. Even if someone has betrayed us, we must continue to trust others.
“When faced with contempt, continue to know your worth. Because there are more good people than indecent ones. More people with empathy than indifference,” she said.
Just a few weeks prior, Shakira and Gerard were back together in court to confirm their split child custody arrangement.
Last month, they claimed that after a 12-hour conversation, they had reached an amicable custody agreement for their kids.
They entered and left the court individually while being flagged by their legal teams to formally sign the deal in Barcelona.
In order to avoid a lengthy legal dispute, Gerard, who tearfully withdrew from football last month, is claimed to have granted his OK for his ex-partner to go to Miami with their two sons in the new year.
The main issue in the couple’s earlier inability to reach an out-of-court settlement is believed to have been Shakira’s desire to relocate to the city where she used to live and where a portion of her family is based.
The Spanish press has also stated that as part of his custody arrangement with Shakira, Gerard will be permitted to spend holidays and 10 days each month with his kids.
Gerard has started dating Clara, a 23-year-old PR student.
Since the breakup, Pique has been seen giving his new girlfriend passionate kisses, showing that they are not at all trying to hide their connection.
Shakira acknowledged that the time following the breakup had been “extremely tough” for her and the family in a statement she made back in September.
The luxurious Barcelona property where Gerard and Shakira raised their two sons is supposedly up for sale.
