Westlake Corporation (WLK) Bolsters European Chlorovinyls Footprint With German PVC Plant Acquisition

Westlake Corporation (NYSE: WLK) has completed the acquisition of a polyvinyl chloride and vinyl chloride monomer production facility in Wilhelmshaven, Germany, expanding its global manufacturing reach.

The deal was executed through Westlake’s German subsidiary, Westlake Vinnolit GmbH & Co. KG, and marks a significant step in the company’s European industrial strategy.

The Wilhelmshaven plant, which was previously under insolvency administration, has an annual production capacity of 380,000 metric tons of PVC.

Located in Lower Saxony on Germany’s North Sea coast, the site offers strategic logistical advantages that are expected to support efficient raw-materials supply chains.

Among those advantages is a deep-water dock, which Westlake says will enable cost-effective and reliable delivery of the materials needed to sustain large-scale production.

Jean-Marc Gilson, President and Chief Executive Officer of Westlake, said the deal directly reinforces the company’s core industrial division.

“This acquisition strengthens our Performance & Essential Materials business by expanding our global chlorovinyls manufacturing footprint and complements our existing chlorovinyl production facilities in Europe and North America,” Gilson said.

Gilson also pointed to the plant’s location as a key operational asset, noting its infrastructure benefits and expressing a warm welcome to incoming staff.

“The Wilhelmshaven plant, which is located in Lower Saxony on Germany’s North Sea coast, benefits from advantageous logistical infrastructure, including a deep-water dock that enables efficient raw-materials supply,” he said. “We look forward to welcoming the site’s employees to our Westlake family.”

The acquisition adds to Westlake’s existing network of chlorovinyl production sites across both Europe and North America, consolidating its position as a leading global materials manufacturer.

Westlake, which is headquartered in Houston, operates across Asia, Europe, and North America, supplying materials that feed into sectors including housing, construction, packaging, healthcare, automotive, and consumer goods.

The company is marking 40 years of operations in 2026, a milestone that coincides with this latest push to deepen its international manufacturing presence.
