Combs’s time behind bars keeps getting shorter, with the Bureau of Prisons now listing a projected release date of February 23, 2028, from FCI Fort Dix in New Jersey.
That marks the third reduction to his sentence in recent months, after the date shifted to April 23 last autumn and then again to April 15 more recently.
The Federal Bureau of Prisons offered no detailed explanation for the updated date, stating only that “good conduct” can help an inmate reduce their time served.
Part of that good conduct reportedly includes Combs completing a rehabilitation programme while incarcerated, which has contributed to the ongoing reduction in his projected sentence.
The music mogul was initially sentenced to around 50 months following his 2025 prostitution conviction, a term that itself represented a significant reduction from earlier speculation about a potential life sentence.
His legal team has continued pushing for further reductions since sentencing, raising arguments about errors in the sentencing process as well as a longer-shot First Amendment argument.
The combination of legal challenges and in-prison conduct has resulted in what amounts to a steady drip of reductions, each one trimming months off the original term.
Rapper 50 Cent has already taken notice, sharing posts on Instagram on Tuesday night reacting to the news of Combs’s updated release date.
The social media activity came on the same evening that news broke about boxer Floyd Mayweather facing felony theft charges, giving 50 Cent two high-profile targets in a single night.
The dynamic between 50 Cent and Combs has been a long-running fixture of hip-hop culture, with 50 having spent years publicly needling his self-described frenemy across various platforms.
Combs’s legal team’s efforts, combined with his conduct record inside prison, suggest his time at FCI Fort Dix could continue to shrink as 2028 approaches.
Released prisoners commonly face the challenge of adjusting to a changed world, and Combs will emerge into a media and music landscape that has shifted considerably since his incarceration began.
