Immigration firm Colombo and Hurd has secured an EB-2 National Interest Waiver green card for a Colombian lawyer and finance professional working in digital asset compliance.
The client’s I-140 petition was approved by USCIS in just six days through Premium Processing, with no Request for Evidence issued at any stage of the process.
Following approval of the petition, the client completed the Adjustment of Status process in just over six months and is now a lawful permanent resident of the United States.
The client brings ten years of progressive professional experience in finance, holding a professional degree in law and a master’s degree focused on international taxation, alongside a master’s in management and a bachelor’s in business administration.
His career spanned roles as a financial advisor, legal and financial consultant, and entrepreneur in the digital asset sector, with each position growing in complexity and international scope.
A central part of his background involved helping build a digital asset market in his home country that had not previously existed, developing a framework for compliant, bankable operations across multiple countries.
His proposed endeavor for the NIW petition centred on a U.S.-based platform designed to centralise transaction information behind digital asset conversions and improve reporting to financial authorities.
The platform targets crypto-based assets such as cryptocurrencies and stablecoins that individuals abroad hold and later convert into local currency, with a structured, phased development plan supporting the application.
The legal team at Colombo and Hurd built the case around federal priorities already shaping the digital asset industry, citing initiatives related to responsible development of digital assets and efforts to strengthen oversight and prevent illicit finance.
The petition argued that defining the endeavour concretely, rather than broadly referencing digital asset compliance, gave USCIS a credible and executable path rather than an abstract concept for evaluation.
Three recommendation letters supported the petition, coming from the legal coordinator for the Colombian branch of a major international infrastructure and engineering group, a finance and international relations professional, and a professor of law.
Those letters highlighted the client’s academic excellence, leadership, and professional discipline, referencing multiple academic excellence awards, a leadership award, and a nomination for outstanding international student.
A separate letter of interest from the chief executive of an established company operating across the Americas indicated concrete demand for the compliance platform the client proposed to build.
The Adjustment of Status process was handled by attorney Michelle Villagran, with the green card formally approved on 29 May 2026, granting the client full lawful permanent residency in the United States.
As a permanent resident, the client is now free to move forward with building his compliance platform and advancing his work in the rapidly growing digital asset sector.
