BeOne Medicines is investing $300 million into its flagship New Jersey campus to expand domestic drug manufacturing with new small molecule production capabilities.
The investment targets the company’s Princeton West Innovation Campus in Hopewell, a site that already serves as BeOne’s primary research and development hub for its cancer medicine portfolio.
The expansion will add a new three-story, 145,000-square-foot building dedicated to drug product manufacturing, packaging, quality control laboratories, and office space.
Construction will bring the total campus footprint to approximately 545,000 square feet, creating what BeOne describes as a fully integrated, multi-platform manufacturing facility.
The project is expected to create 120 new jobs initially, with the company anticipating a total workforce of 240 employees at the site by the time construction wraps up in 2029.
The expansion is designed to combine BeOne’s existing biologics production with new small molecule capabilities to support its growing hematology portfolio, including the BTK inhibitor Brukinsa and investigational BTK degrader tacabrutideg.
Additional capacity within the new building has been reserved for future growth and may be used “to support strategic collaborations with partners,” according to BeOne.
Switzerland-headquartered BeOne initially committed $800 million to the Hopewell campus, which opened in July 2024, pushing the company’s total investment at the site beyond $1 billion.
A $33.9 million tax credit approved on July 22 by the New Jersey Economic Development Authority will support the project, awarded under the state’s Next New Jersey Manufacturing Program and distributed over five years.
BeOne joins a growing list of pharmaceutical companies, including Johnson and Johnson and Eli Lilly, that are boosting domestic US drug manufacturing capacity amid ongoing political pressure to onshore production.
BeOne CFO Aaron Rosenberg welcomed the policy environment supporting the move, stating: “We appreciate the federal tax policies advanced by the president that encourage investment in biopharmaceutical production, alongside the Next New Jersey Manufacturing Program and the governor’s efforts to support advanced manufacturing and high-quality job creation.”
New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherrill also praised the announcement, saying: “BeOne’s expansion in Hopewell is a testament to New Jersey’s position as a global leader for innovation and as the medicine chest of the world.”
The Hopewell campus expansion reflects a broader industry shift toward domestic pharmaceutical manufacturing as companies seek to reduce supply chain vulnerabilities and respond to government incentives encouraging US-based production.
