Fox News host Rachel Campos-Duffy has offered a candid and revealing account of how her husband came to lead the Department of Transportation under President Trump.
Sean Duffy, the former reality television personality and prosecutor, was confirmed as Transportation Secretary after Trump selected him for the cabinet role.
But according to his own wife, the position was not exactly a first-choice assignment within the administration’s inner circle.
Campos-Duffy appeared alongside her husband on The Katie Miller Podcast, an interview series hosted by Stephen Miller’s wife, Katie Miller.
The podcast has served as a platform where spouses of cabinet officials discuss the personal side of serving in the Trump administration.
When asked about the moment Trump offered Sean Duffy a position, Campos-Duffy gave a straightforward answer about how the role came about.
“He said he wanted to serve the president in any way,” Campos-Duffy said, describing her husband’s initial response to being approached by the Trump team.
She then added the detail that has since drawn considerable attention: “He ended up in transportation because that was all that’s left.”
The comment offers a rare and unfiltered glimpse into how cabinet positions were distributed among Trump’s preferred nominees during the transition period.
It suggests that more prominent or desirable roles had already been claimed by higher-ranking figures within MAGA circles before Duffy’s appointment was finalised.
The Transportation Department oversees aviation safety, road infrastructure, rail networks, and a significant portion of federal spending on public works across the United States.
Despite the circumstances of his appointment, Duffy has moved to place his own stamp on the department since taking office and has been a vocal presence in the administration.
