According to a report from Football Insider, Aston Villa have joined Newcastle United in the hunt to sign Scottish international full-back Kieran Tierney from Arsenal at the end of the season.
The Scotsman moved to the Premier League in 2019 as he joined Arsenal from Scottish giants Celtic for around £25 million.
Tierney hit the ground running at the north London club, as he adjusted to life in the Premier League like a glove.
Injuries have got in the way of his progress lately, though, as he missed several months of action last season as a result of a knee issue, for which he required a surgery, and hence missing the start of the ongoing season as well.
Arsenal bolstered at left-back in the summer as they brought in Oleksandr Zinchenko from rivals Manchester City.
The Ukraine international has been preferred by Mikel Arteta for much of this season and he has been one of the club’s standout performer and a dressing-room leader this term.
Arsenal have benefitted from Zinchenko’s experience, but Tierney has subsequently fallen down the pecking order.
The 25-year-old has been restricted to just four starts in the Premier League this term as he has played second fiddle to Zinchenko.
Newcastle have been alerted to his situation, and would consider making a move if Arsenal are prepared to let go of their prized asset.
Eddie Howe is said a long-term admirer of the player, and a new left back at St James’ Park this summer is a transfer priority.
Dan Burn, who is naturally centre-back, has spent much of the season on the left side of the back four.
The Magpies are not the only Premier League side interested in Tierney’s services this summer, with Aston Villa also interested in the Scottish left-back as manager Unai Emery looks to continue a rebuild of his squad.
Arsenal are in a strong position with the Scot, though, as he still has three years left to run on his current contract.
The Gunners are expected to be open to offers for Tierney, and they would want more than the £30 million mark.
