Arsenal close to signing centre-back from Italian club

Jakub Kiwior, a Polish defender, is reportedly close to joining Arsenal from Serie A side Spezia.

According to sources, Arsenal is nearing a deal to recruit promising Spezia center-back Jakub Kiwior.

On Thursday, the Gunners signed Leandro Trossard from Brighton for £21 million after missing out on their top target, Mykhailo Mudryk, who signed with Premier League rivals Chelsea.

However, it doesn’t seem like it will be their last move in the January transfer window as Tomasz Wlodarczyk of Poland, a transfer expert, claims that a deal for Kiwior is close.

This transfer seems to have come out of nowhere, much like the Gunners’ acquisition of Portuguese playmaker Fabio Vieira in the summer, but Arsenal is eager to complete as many deals behind closed doors as they can.

The 22-year-old center-back has recently emerged as one of Serie A’s most promising players, reportedly drawing interest from clubs like Juventus and AC Milan.

Arsenal, it would seem, has prevailed in the pursuit of his skills.

According to Transfermarkt, Kiwior is also capable of playing as a defensive midfielder.

Last season, he appeared 19 times as a No. 6 in the Italian top division.

That will give Arsenal some much-needed protection in the middle of the field, as Mikel Arteta’s team has relied heavily in previous years on Thomas Partey to hold their midfield.
