Barcelona confirm injury blow to Frenkie de Jong as injury list grows

Barcelona’s injury list has continued to grow with Frenkie de Jong sustaining a hamstring injury, the club have confirmed.

De Jong was initially included in the Netherlands’ national team for the European Championship qualifications, but he was forced to withdraw due to injury.

Just a day after Andreas Christensen suffered an injury whilst on international duty with Denmark, Barca have now revealed a worrying update on De Jong.

Christensen has been ruled out for up to three or four weeks, which will see him miss the Copa del Rey semi-final second-leg encounter against Real Madrid in the first week of April.

With the Catalan giants already without Pedri and Ousmane Dembele, their injury issues appear to have escalated even more.

When De Jong was pulled out from the Netherlands squad earlier this week it was reported as a minor knock.

However, scans have subsequently revealed otherwise, and the midfielder has suffered a right hamstring injury, with no timeline for a return.

“Tests carried out on the first team player Frenkie de Jong have revealed that the first team player has a hamstring injury in his right thigh. He is unavailable for selection and his recovery will determine his return,” the club said.

While his situation and availability for El Clasico is currently in doubt, reports have suggested that the player believes he can recover before his expected return and feature for the Catalans against Real Madrid.

There is some hope, but Barcelona will have to wait to see what happens with his recovery.
