Bayern Munich have made their most decisive move yet to sign Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon, presenting the England International with a concrete five-year contract offer ahead of the summer transfer window.
The Bundesliga champions have been tracking the 25-year-old for several months, with head coach Vincent Kompany having already given his personal approval for the transfer to proceed.
Gordon enjoyed one of the standout individual campaigns in Europe this season, registering 17 goals and five assists across 46 appearances in all competitions. His performances in the Champions League were particularly eye-catching, with only Kylian Mbappe and Harry Kane finishing the group and knockout stages with a superior scoring return before Newcastle’s elimination at the hands of Barcelona.
The main sticking point remains a fee agreement between Bayern and Newcastle. The Magpies, who are under pressure to comply with Premier League Profit and Sustainability Rules this summer, have placed a valuation of around €90 million on the winger. Bayern’s sporting directors Max Eberl and Christoph Freund are currently unwilling to commit to that figure and are therefore maintaining alternative targets as fallback options.
Barcelona have also entered the picture, with sporting director Deco reported to have met with Gordon’s representatives, though the Catalan club’s financial position makes matching Newcastle’s asking price a significant challenge. Arsenal remain interested domestically, with reports suggesting they could table a formal bid when the window opens.
Gordon himself is understood to be open to the move to Munich, inspired in part by the success Michael Olise has enjoyed at the Allianz Arena. However, he also has significant World Cup ambitions and is expected to wait until after the tournament before committing fully to his next destination.
