A 16-year-old teenager, identified as Isaac Zetino, was fatally shot during a high school graduation party in Houston, Texas, according to a statement from the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.
The incident took place in the early hours of Saturday morning, around 1:30 a.m., in the residential Copperbrook neighborhood. Despite the efforts of medical personnel at the scene, they were unable to save the young victim.
According to Sheriff Ed Gonzalez, Zetino had gone to the party after attending prom. During the gathering, a disturbance ensued between Zetino, another juvenile, and the father of a girl present at the party. Both parties involved in the altercation drew handguns and fired at each other.
Investigators have since located the adult male who exchanged gunfire with Zetino and the second juvenile involved in the incident.
The individual has cooperated with investigators, providing a statement in which he claimed to have acted in self-defense when firing his weapon. Sheriff Gonzalez noted that the statement was consistent with findings at the scene.
As of now, no charges have been filed, and the incident remains under investigation. Once the investigation is complete, the case will be presented to a grand jury, which may consider possible charges.
