Bristol Myers Squibb (NYSE: BMY) has announced plans to build a major new manufacturing campus in Houston, Texas, representing a $2.3 billion investment in domestic production capacity.
The facility will be located at Generation Park in Houston and will span approximately 600,000 square feet, designed to scale in capability and workforce over the coming decades.
BMS describes the campus as modular and multi-modal, meaning it will be capable of producing small molecules, biologics, and antibody-drug conjugates under one roof.
The modular architecture is specifically intended to allow the company to bring new manufacturing capabilities online rapidly as its pipeline and commercial needs evolve over time.
Construction is scheduled to begin in 2027, with the facility expected to be fully operational by 2030, giving the project a clear multi-year development timeline.
The project will generate nearly 500 permanent skilled jobs at the site, while also supporting approximately 2,000 construction and indirect jobs between 2027 and 2030.
The Houston announcement forms part of a broader $40 billion commitment BMS has made to invest in the United States over five years across research and development, technology, and domestic manufacturing.
Bristol Myers Squibb already maintains an existing presence in Texas, having worked with a contract manufacturer in the state for both commercial and clinical trial production, as well as operating across 250 clinical trial sites there during 2025.
To support the investment, the state of Texas extended a $4.89 million Texas Enterprise Fund grant to the company, reflecting official backing for the project at the state level.
BMS Board Chair and CEO Christopher Boerner said: “This investment reflects our confidence in America’s continued leadership in biopharmaceutical innovation.”
Greater Houston Partnership President and CEO Steve Kean welcomed the announcement, saying: “Bristol Myers Squibb’s announcement is a tremendous win for Texas and the Houston region, further reinforcing our position as a premier destination for life sciences and advanced manufacturing.”
The selection of Generation Park followed an evaluation of several potential locations across the central and eastern United States, with Houston ultimately chosen as the preferred destination for the landmark facility.
