Justice Clarence Thomas rarely grants media interviews, making his appearance on Ted Cruz’s podcast a notable and carefully timed event this week.
Thomas sat down for a conversation on “Verdict with Ted Cruz,” a visit that coincided, with striking convenience, with what felt like a promotional book launch moment.
The Supreme Court justice used the platform to personally thank Cruz, a sitting United States senator, for defending him during a period of significant public scrutiny.

“And more personally, when we, my wife and I, were under attack for obvious reasons, you and Mike Lee and some of the other friends would stand up,” Thomas said.
He concluded that portion of his remarks with a direct and unambiguous expression of thanks, telling Cruz, “So I really appreciate that.”
