Beau Greaves, the 22-year-old women’s darts sensation from Doncaster, has had her eyes insured for £1m by opticians Specsavers.
The partnership follows Greaves claiming a third Women’s World Matchplay title at the weekend, defeating Fallon Sherrock 6-5 in the final at the Winter Gardens in Blackpool.
Greaves, who wears glasses, has become one of the sport’s most recognisable figures, and the deal highlights the growing commercial appetite around professional darts.
“In darts, having clear, reliable vision is a huge part of performing at your best,” Greaves said, explaining why the partnership felt like a natural fit.
“Partnering with Specsavers feels like a natural fit because my eyesight is such a big part of my game, so it makes sense to protect it,” she added.
Specsavers said the insurance arrangement is designed to shine a “spotlight on the often-overlooked role vision plays at the highest level of sport.”
The opticians are also using the partnership to encourage the wider public to prioritise regular eye tests and take better care of their eyesight.
Neil Liddle of Specsavers said: “Beau continues to break barriers and rewrite what’s possible in darts.”
Liddle added: “By insuring Beau’s eyes, we want to remind everyone — not just elite athletes — to value and protect their vision by making regular eye tests a priority.”
It has been a stellar year overall for Greaves, who became the first woman to win a PDC ranking title, a landmark achievement in the sport.
Greaves has now won 10 of her 11 finals, a remarkable record that includes three Women’s World Championships and three platinum tournaments.
“I’m really proud to have won the Women’s World Matchplay for a third time. It was a tough final and matches like that come down to the finest of margins,” Greaves said.
While Specsavers are not a full sponsor, the deal represents the next step in a trend of major brands entering darts as the sport continues to attract mainstream attention.
Luke Littler, who won the men’s World Matchplay event, counts Target Darts, Xbox, Boohoo Man, and KP Nuts among his sponsors, with Greaves also backed by Target Darts.
