Ember LifeSciences And Alfresa Forge Cold Chain Partnership To Transform Japan Pharmaceutical Logistics

Ember LifeSciences has entered into a capital and business alliance with Alfresa Corporation to strengthen pharmaceutical cold chain logistics across Japan.

Alfresa Corporation is a subsidiary of Alfresa Holdings Corporation, which holds the number one position in domestic net sales within Japan’s pharmaceutical wholesale sector.

The partnership will see Alfresa evaluate Ember’s technology, including the Ember Cube, for use in its Home Care Delivery service for specialty pharmaceuticals.

That service delivers specialty pharmaceutical products directly from medical institutions to patients’ homes, making cold chain precision a critical operational requirement.

As part of the alliance, Alfresa will provide financial support for Ember’s expansion through an investment in Series A preferred stock issued by Ember LifeSciences.

Other investors participating in Ember’s Series A round include Amgen, Cardinal Health, Carrier, and Sea Court Capital, reflecting broad industry confidence in the company.

Through the agreement, Alfresa also secures exclusive sales rights in Japan’s healthcare sector for solutions provided by Ember LifeSciences.

Clay Alexander, Ember founder and CEO, said: “This strategic investment and distribution alliance marks a pivotal milestone. Together, Alfresa and Ember share a profound commitment to bringing unprecedented precision, confidence and reliability to pharmaceutical cold chain logistics for patients throughout Japan.”

Yusuke Fukujin, representative director and president of Alfresa, said: “The rapid growth of biopharmaceuticals and vaccines — with the number of temperature-sensitive products increasing each year — demands absolute precision in cold chain logistics.”

Fukujin added: “I am very excited about this partnership with Ember, which reinforces our commitment to advance cold chain pharmaceutical logistics in the Japanese market.”

The Ember Cube 2 recently earned the Best of the Best Red Dot Design Award, recognising its performance and design within the pharmaceutical logistics sector.

The device maintains a temperature range of 2°C to 8°C for more than 72 hours while continuously monitoring shipment conditions and location in real time.

Ember’s cold chain solutions are designed for pharmaceutical manufacturers, distributors, and healthcare providers that require both temperature control and real-time shipment visibility.

The Alfresa Group operates across a wide range of healthcare business lines, including ethical pharmaceuticals wholesaling, pharmaceutical manufacturing, dispensing pharmacies, and regenerative medicine-related activities.
