England fans chasing a place in World Cup history will need deep pockets, with tickets for Wednesday’s semi-final against Argentina starting at $2,700.
The Three Lions secured their spot in the last four with a nervy 2-1 extra-time victory over Norway on Saturday night, booking a tie against defending champions Argentina.
The semi-final takes place at the Atlanta Stadium, officially known as the Mercedes-Benz Stadium, in Georgia, home to the NFL’s Atlanta Falcons and MLS side Atlanta United.
While entry-level tickets begin at $2,700, the upper end of the market is staggering, with seats on Fifa’s official resale platform reaching as high as $287,000 for bottom-tier positions.
Category One tickets are also commanding enormous sums, with some listed for as much as $172,000 as demand for England’s biggest match in years intensifies.
The semi-final venue holds around 71,000 supporters, and available seats can currently be found in nearly every block of the Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
Ticket resale platforms beyond Fifa’s own site show prices ranging from around $3,000 at the lower end, climbing to $20,000 and beyond for premium positions.
Since England beat Norway and Argentina defeated Switzerland to set up this blockbuster clash, average ticket prices for the match have risen by 18.8 per cent in just three days, according to data from Seat Pick.
Seat Pick believes prices will continue climbing ahead of Wednesday’s kick-off, adding further financial pressure on supporters desperate to witness the occasion in person.
By comparison, the Norway quarter-final saw some fans relist unwanted tickets for a reported $8 million, making the current semi-final prices appear relatively modest at the lower end.
Tickets for the third-place play-off have also surged, rising 23 per cent over the same three-day period, reflecting widespread appetite for World Cup football across the tournament’s final stages.
Should England overcome Argentina in Atlanta, they would face either Spain or France in the final at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on Sunday.
Tickets for the final are already trading at extraordinary levels, starting at $7,400 on Fifa’s resale site and rising to an almost unthinkable $11.5 million at the very top of the market.
