Graham Potter is under even more pressure following Chelsea’s humiliating 1-0 Premier League loss to Southampton; after 23 games, the club is now sitting in 10th place.
In spite of showing minimal signs of improvement, James Ward-Prowse scored a spectacular free-kick to extend Chelsea’s winless streak to five games across all competitions.
Although the hosts had 17 shots and controlled 61% of the possession, they lacked a cutting edge, making Potter’s decision to rest players like Reece James and Hakim Ziyech—as well as to once again leave out Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang—even more puzzling.
Although Potter’s hiring and Chelsea’s transfer strategy were both decided with the club’s future in mind, supporter irritations are perfectly understandable.
Now, Brighton, Brentford, and even West London rivals Fulham all rank higher than Chelsea.
So, it should come as no surprise to most that rumours about Potter’s future are still rampant and that potential replacements are already being promoted on social media.
A desire for Chelsea to hire former Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino could surprise some.
