‘Fabinho is done’: Jurgen Klopp told it’s time for mass changes at Liverpool

Liverpool’s faint Champions League hopes were dealt a further blow after wins for Newcastle United and Manchester United on Wednesday night.

Former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy has advised manager Jurgen Klopp to get rid of ‘half a dozen players’ in a major reshuffle at Anfield, but has named Fabinho as one of three players must be offloaded in the off-season.

The Merseyside club has struggled for consistency this season and are in serious danger of losing out on the Champions League next season.

Jurgen Klopp’s side are currently eighth in the Premier League standings, seven points behind fifth-placed Tottenham Hotspur, while Manchester United and Newcastle are ten points ahead of them.

Moreover, the Reds have already been knocked out of the Champions League by the title holders Real Madrid with an embarrassing 6-2 aggregate score-line.

Murphy believes that a complete squad makeover is desperately required at Anfield, since Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade Chamberlain, James Milner, and Robert Firmino have all yet to extend their contracts beyond the summer.

“I think it’s time for a big reset” – Danny Murphy

Speaking on the renowned talkSPORT Jim White and Simon Jordan show, he said: “I think it’s time for a big reset, I think there’s going to be five or six gone in the summer.”

“I think Klopp knows, Klopp will get the opportunity to fix this and he deserves that opportunity, a hundred per cent.”

“I think most fans are with me on that. Is it easy getting players out the door? Some who will be on big money? We will have to wait and see.”

“But I think you’re looking at least half a dozen, maybe four of five at least – probably half a dozen coming in, in the summer.”

When asked by host Jim White on which particular players could be moved on, Murphy said: “Fabinho is done. Tsimikas is not good enough. Robertson doesn’t worry me in the slightest. Even if he doesn’t play well, he is at it. He would die for you. Roberson, (I would keep) 100 per cent.”

Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlin are set to leave Liverpool at the end of the season, while James Milner is also out of contract.

Klopp had previously expressed a desire to keep Milner at the club, however, but it is almost certain that both Keita and Oxlade-Chamberlin will not pen new deals at Anfield.

“Liverpool need to get rid of a load to free up the wages,” Murphy continues his squad assessment.

“Fabinho, Keita and ‘Ox’ have got to go. I think Matip has been brilliant but he’s not go the athleticism anymore. Get some good money for him.

“(Ibrahima) Konate is more the future with the physicality and the legs. Bring another centre-half in who has got those characteristics.”

However, Murphy believes top target Jude Bellingham will join despite the Reds league position and the prospect of no significant European games next season.

Meanwhile, ex-Reds left-back Jose Enrique has advised Klopp to bring in another forward to compete with Salah.
