Fabio Capello couldn’t disguise his admiration for Milan’s Real Madrid loanee Brahim Diaz after he backed up his match-winning effort against Tottenham Hotspur with another brilliant performance on Wednesday night.
“I didn’t like him (before),” Capello told Sky Italia after the Nerazzuri won the opening leg of their Champions League quarter-final against Serie A rivals Napoli 1-0.
“He wasn’t for Milan. But he has matured physically and mentally. Before, he did little. Now, he does exactly the things that are needed.”
Diaz’s future is uncertain, as his loan agreement expires at the end of the season.
“I’m content and happy,” Diaz said when asked about his future. “But I’m happier for the team because we deserve this. I’m happy with what I’m doing. But there’s still a lot to do.”
The 23-year-old is currently on loan at AC Milan, where he has evolved into an important player.
AC Milan are reportedly hoping to sign the player on a permanent basis at the end of the season, although Real Madrid have a buy-back option in his contract.
According to Sport Mediaset, Arsenal is willing to spend more than €30 million for Diaz at the end of the season.
Diaz has six goals and three assists in all competitions, and it will be intriguing to see where he ends up.
Arsenal needs additional depth in attack, and the 23-year-old Spaniard may be a good addition.
