Greenberg Traurig has deployed the next generation of CoCounsel Legal, Thomson Reuters’ agentic AI platform built specifically for legal professionals.
The rollout gives lawyers across the firm’s global offices access to AI that can plan, research, and draft work across an entire legal matter.
The deployment marks a significant step in how large law firms are integrating artificial intelligence into core legal workflows and client-facing work.
The partnership between Greenberg Traurig and Thomson Reuters stretches back four years, during which the firm’s attorneys received early access to CoCounsel Legal ahead of its wider release.
During that period, Greenberg Traurig attorneys participated in beta testing and actively helped shape the product’s development, including its integrations with existing legal tools.
Thomson Reuters President of Legal Professionals Raghu Ramanathan described the deployment as evidence of a broader shift taking place across the legal industry.
“The legal industry is moving beyond AI that simply generates answers, and Greenberg Traurig’s deployment shows what that shift looks like in practice,” Ramanathan said.
The firm has put in place a governance framework centred on the responsible use of AI, ensuring human oversight remains a central feature of how the technology is applied.
Clients are made aware that lawyers use AI on their matters, and AI-generated work products are reviewed by lawyers handling the matter and by supervising shareholders before reaching a client.
That review structure is designed to address longstanding concerns in the legal profession about accuracy, accountability, and professional responsibility when using generative AI tools.
The deployment positions Greenberg Traurig among the leading large law firms embracing agentic AI, which goes further than traditional AI by autonomously planning and executing multi-step legal tasks.
Thomson Reuters, listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange and New York Stock Exchange under the ticker TRI, has made legal AI a central pillar of its product strategy in recent years.
