Italy issues a warning over a significant cyberattack

The US said they were evaluating the impact of the reported events.

The National Cybersecurity Agency (ACN) of Italy announced on Sunday that a ransomware hacking attack had targeted thousands of computer servers throughout the globe and advised organisations to take precautions to safeguard their systems.

According to ACN director general Roberto Baldoni, the hacking attempt was large-scale and aimed to take advantage of a software flaw.

According to the ACN and the ANSA news agency in Italy, servers in France, Finland, the United States, and Canada, as well as other European nations, have also been compromised.

Numerous Italian organisations were probably impacted, and many more have received warnings to take action or risk having access to their systems blocked.

Officials in charge of cybersecurity in the US said they were evaluating the effects of the reported events.

The US Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency stated: “CISA is working with our public and private sector partners to assess the impacts of these reported incidents and providing assistance where needed.”
