Jose Mourinho, the manager of AS Roma, reportedly wants to bring Eric Dier from Tottenham Hotspur to Rome during the summer transfer window.
The Italian club has reportedly “initiated contact” with Spurs for the 29-year-old center-back, according to the Italian news website Romagiallorossa.it.
Dier, who transferred from Sporting Lisbon to Tottenham in 2014, has made 355 appearances and has 13 goals and 12 assists for the team.
He started out as a defensive midfielder, but during the course of his career, he was switched to center-back.
Any potential agreement will, however, be contingent on Roma making it into the Champions League next year, whether it is by winning the Europa League this year or finishing in the top four of Serie A.
Following Antonio Conte’s firing last week, Tottenham is currently searching for a new manager.
His public outburst directed at his players and the club administration led to his dismissal.
Dier’s contract with Spurs expires in 2024, therefore it’s unclear whether the upcoming summer manager of the team will consider the defender to be a crucial member of his ambitions for the squad.
Spurs themselves, meanwhile, are vying for a top-four Premier League finish this year.
