U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic candidate for the upcoming November presidential election, has played a significant role in national security matters, according to Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin.

Austin highlighted her consistent and valuable contributions, stating, “Having observed her provide input to some very complex decision-making processes, she is always prepared, she always provides meaningful and very helpful input.”

President Joe Biden announced his decision to withdraw from the reelection race on Sunday, citing concerns about his physical and mental stamina for what is anticipated to be a challenging contest against Republican nominee Donald Trump.

Within the administration, Harris has been recognized for her strong stance on Israel, frequently participating in discussions with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

She has emphasized the importance of addressing Palestinian civilian casualties and is scheduled to meet with Netanyahu again on Thursday.

Harris has taken on numerous international assignments, particularly in Asia and Latin America, where Biden could not be present.

In Asia, Harris attended the funeral of the late Japanese leader Shinzo Abe and participated in the ASEAN summit.

Her meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping further underscored her engagement in national security and international affairs.

Austin remarked, “She even met with President Xi and so she understands national security, international affairs. She’s been a vital asset to the overall team throughout this.”

A recent Reuters/Ipsos poll revealed that Harris has opened a narrow two-percentage-point lead over Trump following Biden’s exit from the race, indicating a competitive upcoming election.
