Defense contractor L3Harris Technologies announced it has secured a U.S. Navy contract to develop Red Wolf vehicles as part of the Marine Corps’ precision-strike modernization program.
The Red Wolf system is designed as a long-range, precision-strike missile capable of engaging moving targets, including ships, at distances exceeding 200 nautical miles.
Focus on affordable mass and rapid deployment
Chief executive Christopher Kubasik said the system would provide affordable scale to the Marines’ arsenal within the timeline set by U.S. officials to enhance battlefield lethality.
“Our proven Red Wolf system can bring affordable mass to the Marines’ arsenal of advanced munitions within the timeline U.S. officials have outlined to support the most lethal fighting force in the world,” he said.
Part of broader push to replenish stockpiles
The Red Wolf forms part of a wider effort unveiled last July alongside the Green Wolf missile, aimed at offering lower-cost strike options as the U.S. military replenishes depleted inventories.
These systems are also intended to strengthen deterrence posture in the Pacific region, where strategic focus has intensified amid rising tensions involving China.
The contract announcement follows L3Harris missing Wall Street expectations for fourth-quarter revenue, placing additional importance on new defense orders to support future growth.
