Man United Emerge as Frontrunners for Atalanta Midfielder Ederson Amid €45 Million Price

Manchester United have taken the lead in the race to sign Brazilian midfielder Ederson from Atalanta this summer, leapfrogging Atletico Madrid as the most likely destination for one of Serie A’s most dynamic box-to-box midfielders.

The 26-year-old has been identified at Old Trafford as the long-term replacement for Casemiro, who is set to depart on a free transfer when his contract expires in June.

Atalanta are holding firm on a €45 million asking price for Ederson, a figure that has proved too steep for Atletico Madrid despite the Spanish side having already agreed personal terms with the player.

The Italian club’s hierarchy are said to prefer a Premier League destination for the midfielder, viewing an English club as more likely to meet their valuation in full. United’s director of football Jason Wilcox is among the strongest internal advocates for the signing, with Fabrizio Romano confirming Ederson is firmly on the club’s midfield shortlist.

Arsenal are also keeping close tabs on the situation, though their interest is described as considerably less advanced. Juventus have been monitoring the player as well, but United appear to hold the clearest financial intent at this stage, with a formal offer now reportedly submitted.

Ederson has made over 150 appearances for Atalanta since joining from Salernitana in 2022 and has established himself as one of the most reliable pressers and tacklers in European football. With Manuel Ugarte expected to be moved on and Casemiro already confirmed as leaving, United’s need for central midfield reinforcement this summer is pressing. The Brazil International has 15 months remaining on his current deal at Bergamo, giving Atalanta limited leverage beyond this window.
