Manufacturers selling products in Minnesota are running out of time to meet a significant environmental compliance deadline tied to per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances reporting.
Companies that sell, offer for sale, or distribute products in Minnesota must submit a report by September 15, 2026, covering each product or component containing intentionally added PFAS.
The Minnesota legislature amended the relevant statute in May 2026 to exclude products manufactured before July 1, 2023, from the reporting requirements entirely.
That manufacture date exemption applies specifically to the final product’s production date, not to individual components contained within the product.
The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency published guidance in its August 28, 2026, Daily Digest Bulletin aimed at companies that have not yet submitted their reports.
The MPCA advised businesses yet to file to begin creating accounts by following instructions set out in the agency’s PFAS reporting guide and accompanying how-to videos.
A supplemental guide to the PFAS Reporting and Information System for Manufacturers, known as PRISM, addresses specific scenarios including reporting in groups, handling custom products, and managing incomplete supply chain information.
According to MPCA, “PRISM is performing well,” with reports on over 17,000 products already submitted, reviewed, and published, and thousands more currently pending review.
Manufacturers must ensure their product reports are submitted with a fee payment by 11:59 p.m. CDT on September 15, 2026, in order to satisfy the reporting deadline.
PRISM will prompt reporters to pay via credit card, while extension request fees were required to be paid by check under a separate process.
MPCA has confirmed it will not publish any reports in PRISM’s public search function until after it has reviewed submissions and confirmed payment status for each filing.
Businesses operating across multiple product lines or complex supply chains are encouraged to act immediately given the limited time remaining before the deadline passes.
