According to reports, Newcastle United is first in line to sign midfielder Alex Scott from Bristol City.
Scott has made 80 appearances in all competitions since joining the Robins from FC Guernsey in 2020, totaling five goals and seven assists.
Scott has five international appearances for the Under-20 team and was a member of the England team that won the Under-19 European Championship in 2022.
During the January transfer window, Wolverhampton Wanderers of the Premier League expressed interest in signing the teenager.
Wolves wanted to sign the young player desperately, but they were unwilling to pay Bristol City’s £25 million asking price.
Despite the fact that a transfer away from Ashton Gate did not occur in January, Bristol City is preparing for additional bids when the transfer market reopens in the summer.
Newcastle is one of several Premier League teams reportedly preparing a summer transfer, according to Football Insider.
According to the article, the Magpies are currently in first place, beating out teams like Crystal Palace, West Ham United, and Wolves.
The fact that Newcastle is willing to immediately loan Scott back to the Championship team for the 2023–24 season may give them an advantage over their rivals.
In the fifth round of the FA Cup on Tuesday, the Robins will play Manchester City, the defending Premier League winners, giving Scott, who has a contract through June 2025, the chance to shine against the league leaders.
The midfielder gave his team a 1-0 win over West Bromwich Albion in the previous round by scoring his first FA Cup goal.
Newcastle will play Manchester City this week when they travel to the Etihad Stadium for Saturday’s Premier League matchup, following their loss to Manchester United in the EFL Cup final on Sunday.
