Manchester United have entered ‘into negotiations’ with Wolves star Ruben Neves ahead of a potential stunning move to Old Trafford in the summer, according to Spanish outlet Sport.

Erik ten Hag has overseen an amazing recovery at Old Trafford, significantly improving the Red Devils by winning the League Cup and guiding Manchester United into the top four ahead of the crucial final run-in.

Last summer, United manager Erik ten Hag revamped the Red Devils’ shaky midfield by bringing in Christian Eriksen on a free transfer and Casemiro from Real Madrid.

Ten Hag has picked Casemiro and Eriksen as his preferred midfield pairing, which has had a huge influence for United in the 2022-23 season.

When Brazilian defensive midfielder Casemiro has been absent for Ten Hag, his side have looked a completely different proposition, with Fred often used in rotation, while Scott McTominay’s long-term future at Old Trafford is up in the air amid interest from Newcastle, highlighting the need for more quality in the centre of the park.

SPORT claim that United’s midfield depth issues will be addressed this summer, with Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Ruben Neves already in advanced talks over a move.

Neves, who is known for his passing range and ability to break up play, would undoubtedly provide assistance to Casemiro in the middle of the park.

The report adds that Neves is, “already negotiating what could be his transfer to United starting next summer”, with the Portuguese international himself reportedly keen on a big move.

The midfielder has just one year left on his contract at Molineux this summer, and it is believed the Premier League outfit has dropped their asking price from £70m last summer to £50m this time around due to his expiring contract.
