Russian air defense forces reported intercepting two British-made Storm Shadow cruise missiles, according to the country’s Defense Ministry in its daily update on recent events.
“Air defences shot down two Storm Shadow cruise missiles manufactured by Britain, six HIMARS rockets manufactured by the USA, and 67 unmanned aerial vehicles of the aircraft type,” the ministry stated.
Pro-Russian military bloggers on Telegram shared photos on Wednesday showing what appeared to be debris from a Storm Shadow missile.
The posts claimed the remains were found in the village of Marino in Russia’s Kursk region.
However, the Defense Ministry did not specify the location of the missile interceptions in Thursday’s report.
Storm Shadow missiles are produced by MBDA, a European missile systems company that combines resources from France, Britain, and Italy.
According to MBDA, the Storm Shadow/SCALP is “the air-launched long range, conventionally armed, deep strike weapon, designed to meet the demanding requirements of pre-planned attacks against high-value fixed or stationary targets.”
The company notes that Storm Shadow/SCALP missiles have previously been deployed in conflicts such as the Gulf War, Iraq, and Libya.
When asked about the reports, a spokesperson for British Prime Minister Keir Starmer declined to comment on Wednesday.
The United Kingdom has previously authorized Ukraine to deploy Storm Shadow missiles within Ukrainian territory.
These missiles have a range of over 250 kilometers (155 miles), providing long-range strike capabilities.
