Sanofi (SNY) Partners With Special Olympics Unified Football World Cup To Champion Respiratory Health

Sanofi has returned to France as an Official Health Partner of the Special Olympics Unified Football World Cup, reinforcing its commitment to inclusive sport and public health awareness.

The French pharmaceutical giant played a central role during the Paris Olympics two years ago and has now extended that sporting engagement through its latest partnership.

Guillaume Wetzel, Head of Partnerships and Sponsorship at Sanofi, described the tournament as an extraordinary occasion marked by passion and community spirit on the pitch.

Wetzel told Fierce Pharma: “Paris was hot, but the real heat was on the soccer fields. The passion, determination and spirit of inclusion we witnessed throughout the Special Olympics Unified Football World Cup made it a truly unforgettable experience.”

He added: “We are very proud to have supported this incredible event as Official Health Partner.”

Beyond the sporting spectacle, Sanofi used its presence at the tournament to promote meaningful health engagement among the athletes who participated.

By the end of the week-long event, more than 300 athletes had taken part in a personalised health journey, raising awareness and assessing their breathing capacity.

The initiative reflects Sanofi’s broader commercial interest in respiratory health, an area where the company has built a significant portfolio of treatments and preventative therapies.

Among its key respiratory products, Sanofi co-markets Dupixent, an immunology blockbuster that holds a licence for certain asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease patients.

The company also markets Beyfortus, its respiratory syncytial virus preventative, which has become an increasingly important part of its respiratory and immunology offering.

Sanofi’s decision to align itself with the Special Olympics reflects a growing trend among large pharmaceutical companies seeking to connect brand visibility with genuine health outreach programmes.

Sponsoring elite and inclusive sporting events gives companies like Sanofi a platform to engage directly with athletes and the wider public on health issues relevant to their product lines.

The Special Olympics Unified Football World Cup brings together athletes with and without intellectual disabilities competing on the same teams, making it a high-profile stage for messages around inclusion and wellbeing.
