According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Rasmus Hojlund is unlikely to leave Atalanta this summer despite interest from Arsenal.
The 20-year-old has enjoyed a remarkable breakout season and has garnered interest from clubs all across the continent.
Romano wrote for CaughtOffside on Substack: “Rasmus Hojlund has been linked with a move to Arsenal by various outlets.
“I’m not sure he’s going to leave Atalanta in 2023. I don’t see Arsenal as an option for Hojlund. They have Gabriel Jesus, Eddie Nketiah and Folarin Balogun. For sure, Hojlund wants to play, not be on the bench.
“I’m told he could stay at Atalanta for one more year.”
Dubbed as ‘the next Haaland’, Hojlund is producing some staggering numbers over in Italian top-flight.
He has scored six goals in 19 Serie A appearances for Atalanta this season, in his first full campaign since joining from Austrian giants Sturm Graz.
Reports earlier this week claimed that both Real Madrid and Arsenal are extensively scouting the forward, and were said to be preparing offers to sign him in the summer.
However, Romano believes that the Gunners’ striking options for the upcoming season mean they will not pursue a move to sign Hojlund and claims that he will likely stay put with La Dea regardless.
Eddie Nketiah is Arsenal’s only fit striker at the moment, though Gabriel Jesus is getting closer to a return.
Next season, Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta could also be looking to re-integrate Folarin Balogun into his plans after the youngster has shone on his loan spell at Ligue 1 side Reims, where he is currently the division’s joint-top scorer with 15 strikes to his name.
