Spurs and Aston Villa ready to battle for 19-year-old wonderkid

Premier League sides Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur are interested in securing the services of Universidad De Chile’s wonderkid Dario Osorio.

According to Chilean outlet Las Ultimas Noticias, as relayed by HITC, Premier League sides Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur are interested in securing the services of Universidad De Chile’s wonderkid Dario Osorio.

The 19-year-old came through the Chilean side’s youth ranks before making his senior debut in 2021.

Since then, he has racked up 30 competitive appearances for the club, netting seven goals in the process. Osorio is also a full international for the Chilean national side, making three appearances, and is seen as yet another exciting prospect emerging from South America.

Velez CF chief scout Lee Scott (via The Scouted Football Podcast) has likened the youngster to Bayern Munich great Arjen Robben thanks to his menacing left foot, and a penchant for cutting inside and firing off curlers.

Scott said: “He’s one who cuts inside, likes to get shots off at goal, likes to attack.

“When you watch him play, there are elements of Arjen Robben in that, when he gets the ball on the right-hand side, you know where he’s going. He just wants to come inside and look to get shots away.

“One of his goals, domestically, was a stunning strike when it cut in on his left boot from far out. He managed to hit the top corner with a swerving, dipping shot. That alone will have caught the eye.”

Scott has also backed the Chilean to make the big step to the Premier League, “He is a player that I don’t think is going to be in South America for much longer. I think he will make a jump straight to a top-five European league.

“But I do think there is still a lot of raw edges to his game. He’s still a little bit, not slow, but casual on the ball at times. You know he’s got the ability to grab a game and make something happen. But he almost likes to slow down a little bit and toy with the opponent, instead of just bursting past.”

“He is quite stocky and powerful. Part of his game has been learning how to harness that. Because, while being casual, when he clicks into gear he can really move as well for someone who is relatively tall. He has a burst.”

As such, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Leicester City, and Southampton have been aware of the teenage sensation for a while, with the former even coming close to securing a £7 million deal last year.

The aforementioned trio will now have to contend with Tottenham and Aston Villa being added to the mix ahead of the summer transfer window.
