Chelsea’s search for a top-quality striker has led them to express interest in Napoli star Victor Osimhen, as the former Premier League and UEFA Champions League winners struggle to find consistent goal-scoring this season.
The Daily Mail reports that Chelsea are keen on acquiring the Nigerian international striker, who has had an impressive season helping Napoli secure the Serie A title.
However, Napoli’s club president, Aurelio De Laurentiis, has stated that he has no intention of selling Osimhen. Manchester United has also expressed interest in the sought-after striker.
Chelsea reportedly believes that Napoli may be willing to sell Osimhen for £130 million. Still, the Blues might face Financial Fair Play constraints that could prevent them from making such a substantial payment.
As a result, Chelsea could consider including Belgian international striker Romelu Lukaku in a potential deal with Napoli. Lukaku is currently on loan at Inter Milan from Chelsea.
Osimhen has had an outstanding season, scoring 23 goals and providing four assists in just 26 Serie A starts. Last season, the striker contributed 14 goals and two assists in 23 Serie A starts. Chelsea is well aware of Osimhen’s capabilities and is eager to bring him on board during the summer transfer window.
Fikayo Tomori, a Chelsea youth product who made a few appearances for the first team before moving to AC Milan on a permanent basis in 2021, has praised Osimhen.
The 25-year-old England international central defender has faced Osimhen in Serie A and holds the striker in high regard. Tomori’s comments will undoubtedly excite Chelsea fans, fueling anticipation for what Osimhen could contribute to the team if he joins the Blues.
