Barcelona are very interested in signing Vitor Roque for next season, and negotiations over his transfer could start very soon, with renowned journalist Gerard Romero reporting that the player’s father and entourage has just arrived to meet with Blaugrana board at the Camp Nou to begin talks.
Since joining Athletico Paranaense last year, Vitor Roque has become a highly sought-after figure in the market.
The 18-year-old enjoyed a solid season with them before going on a remarkable goal-scoring run in the under-20 South American Championships in Colombia, where he guided Brazil to a triumphant run in the tournament.
Moreover, the Brazilian wonderkid has enjoyed an excellent start to the new season, scoring thrice in four games.
Roque’s progress has also earned him his senior debut for Brazil in the most recent international break.
Already labelled a star in the making in his native country, Roque is now attracting interest from major European clubs, with Barcelona reportedly leading the race.
Barcelona will enter the market in the summer transfer window looking for cover for veteran striker Robert Lewandowski.
Additionally, the Catalan giants want a player who can be the long-term successor to the veteran Pole.
Considering Lewandowski is in the twilight phase of his trophy-laden career, Barca could do well to plan in advance.
Likened to former-Barca star Luis Suarez in style, Roque is pacy, quick off the mark, direct and with exquisite finishing skills, attributes that make him a potential superstar in the making.
The 17-year-old has already stated his desire to play for Barcelona, and it is believed that he would prefer a move to the Camp Nou this summer.
However, his price tag could be an issue for Xavi’s side, and it’s worth noting that Vitor Roque’s father was also in London last week amid rumours that he’s a hot property in the Premier League.
Recent reports have suggested that Blaugrana could try to do a deal that would see Roque sign on a one-year loan initially, with an obligation to buy the following year.
