Erik Ten Hag keen to sign marquee striker in summer window

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag may be aiming to give a resounding answer to Ian Wright's criticism of his side as the Dutchman looks to complete his lineup with a top-level striker.

Arsenal legend and renowned pundit Ian Wright has expressed his concerns about Manchester United this season, but Erik ten Hag may have the perfect solution by bringing a marquee striker in the off-season.

The Dutchman had a difficult start to the season, with the Red Devils struggling to gain any momentum in the initial phase of the new Ten Hag era.

However, the results quickly turned in favour of the Old Trafford club as the time passed by.

Man United gained a winning momentum after the World Cup and were even considered as the dark horse for the Premier League title at one point this season.

Meanwhile, the Red Devils were able to end their six-year trophy drought after defeating the astonishing finalist Newcastle United.

But before the winning streak, United went through a rough patch and former Arsenal forward pointed out a concerning tendency at Manchester United under their new boss.

Ian Wright comments on worrying trend

Speaking on The Kelly and Wrighty Show, he said: “Up to this point in the season I think they’ve only had 42 shots on target, something like that. It’s not enough for Manchester United. At the same time, it’s slowly coming because they are creating chances. That will come with the confidence of what you’re seeing day to day in training.

“Things are starting to happen, and you can see a little bit of it on the pitch. You can see they’re still trying to get there. When you’re trying something but don’t get the outcome as it happens you start to think I don’t want to try that anymore. You’re a little bit apprehensive about doing it rather than just trying it.”

“That’s what United have to do they have to break through something. There’s still a lot of sideways passing not enough movement up front to come to the ball so you can pass through lines.”

Ten Hag attempted to address the attacking issue by loaning Wout Weghorst from Burnley to replace Cristiano Ronaldo, but he has frequently changed his striking contingent in attempting to find the perfect solution.

In addition, Ten Hag is looking to sign a marquee striker this summer, which would surely erase any perception that United lacks punch.

With Napoli’s in-form Victor Osimhen and Tottenham’s veteran Harry Kane strongly linked with a move to Old Trafford this summer, Ten Hag can finally build a fierce European attack at Old Trafford, and address the concerns rightfully allayed by Wright earlier this season.
