Reports suggest that Todd Boehly, the new owner of Chelsea, is keen on signing Brazilian football star Neymar this summer.
ESPN claims there is a strong possibility that Neymar might leave Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) at the end of the season as the French club embarks on a new era.
Earlier this year, it was reported that Boehly had discussions with Ligue 1 club officials about the possibility of bringing Neymar to Stamford Bridge in an eye-catching deal. Neymar is considered one of the best players of his generation and is often described as “world-class.”
Boehly has been frequently rumored to be interested in signing a high-profile player to make a statement during his first few months at the helm of the Premier League club.
This was evident in his reported attempt to sign Cristiano Ronaldo before the start of this season, an effort that was thwarted by manager Thomas Tuchel’s reluctance to include Ronaldo in the squad.
Boehly’s focus has now reportedly shifted to Neymar, and it appears the expected new manager has experience working with the Brazilian star.
Mauricio Pochettino is widely anticipated to be announced as Chelsea’s next manager in the coming days, and he will likely draw from his time in Paris as he takes the next step in his career.
Pochettino has previously coached Neymar at PSG, and though they didn’t win the league every season, Pochettino’s tenure saw some of the best individual football of Neymar’s career.
Several attackers at Chelsea will be hopeful that the Argentine manager can have a similar impact on their performances, with Mykhailo Mudryk, in particular, being a player who could potentially develop into an outstanding winger under the right guidance.
