Jenson Button’s girlfriend arrested in Japan

Jessica Michibata, a model and ex-wife of Jenson Button, was detained in Japan "for possession of MDMA."

Model Jessica Michibata, the ex-wife of former Formula One racer Jenson Button, was detained in Japan on drug possession charges.

According to the Japan Times, the 38-year-old was detained when a package containing MDMA was delivered to the hotel where she was staying with a friend.

Reports in the local media say, Michibata is disputing the accusations.

According to reports, a customs official discovered the synthetic medication concealed inside a package addressed to Japan but being shipped to Michibata’s hotel in Tokyo.

The hotel was raided by detectives from the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department, who then detained Michibata and her friend.

Her modelling agency Revive issued the following statement on Monday:

“We apologise to everyone for any concern that the reports of Jessica Michibata, who belongs to our company, have caused. We are currently unable to contact Michibata directly and we are collecting information to confirm the facts. Since the incident is under investigation by the police, we will refrain from disclosing any further details.”

In a hotel bar in Tokyo in 2008, Michibata first met F1 driver Jenson Button, eight months later, they started dating.

Before he proposed on Valentine’s Day 2014, they briefly parted up in 2011.

In December 2014, they exchanged vows in a beautiful Hawaiian ceremony.

Just one year later, they decided to call it quits, but claim to still be on good terms.
