After Pep Guardiola benched Kevin De Bruyne for “tactical reasons,” Manchester City supporters criticised the manager and questioned whether he wanted Arsenal to win the Premier League.
For Sunday’s match between Manchester City and Tottenham, Pep Guardiola choose to start star player Kevin De Bruyne on the bench, citing ‘purely tactical’ reasons.
After starting in the FA Cup triumph over Arsenal last Saturday, the Belgian midfielder was relegated to the bench.
Prior to the encounter against Spurs, the 31-year-old had started 18 Premier League games, but Guardiola chose to use him as a substitute.
The Belgian midfielder, who is still one of the best players in the Premier League, is undoubtedly City’s best player.
Despite the fact that City needed to catch up to Arsenal in the fight for the championship, Guardiola decided his team did not require De Bruyne right away for their match against Tottenham.
Instead, in an effort to catch the opposition off guard, Guardiola started Erling Haaland and striker Julian Alvarez in the attacking lineup.
The City manager laughed as he responded, “Yeah, sure,” when asked whether De Bruyne’s omission was “purely tactical” before the game.
